On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a planner are you?
Never plan (go with the flow) Plan every day (with great detail)
Some of us are planners and some of us are not! How about you? Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you have a checklist of to-do’s that you write out every week or even every day? Or do you like to be spontaneous and see what opportunities come up in the day? Personally, I am more of a planner. I naturally create goals, plans, and checklists, though I always leave room for spontaneity.
As I begin this year, I have felt led by the Lord to reread Ephesians, only this time using my new Bible, the Passion translation. I have been surprised to discover how clearly Ephesians speaks of God as a planner! “For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One. . . and this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure” (Ephesians 1:5-6). Think about this! You are a part of His plan. All along, His plan was to adopt you as His daughter. And don’t miss the part where He calls you delightful!
Not only that, but Ephesians goes on to say, “Before we were even born, he gave us our destiny, that we would fulfill the plan of God who always accomplishes every purpose and plan in his heart” (1:11b). God has a destiny for you! He has a specific purpose for your life that fits into His greater plans and goals for this year and every year! Therefore, it is critical to ask God “What are your plans and your destiny for me? Show me Holy Spirit what you want my goals for this year to be.” Then as you walk in them, you will experience true peace, joy, and fulfillment. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13 ESV).
